“I have long wanted to try fly fishing but felt slightly overawed by the complexities. After a single lesson with Charlie, I'm now "hooked"! Charlie has that unique and precious gift of being able to teach well. He explained the principles of fly fishing in clear and very accessible language, the life cycle of the fly and how fish such as trout feed on these during their life cycle. Casting a fly is a technical skill which requires understanding and practice. During my lesson not only did I manage to learn a roll cast, I also caught a couple of beautiful trout. Lost a few too. The excitement is totally addictive. Charlie was there to guide me through the cast, reading of the water, attract the fish to the fly, land the fish and properly handle them. I shall now purchase some fly-fishing tackle, as recommended by Charlie; and will be booking further lessons to further develop my knowledge and skills. I think his background in classroom teaching shone through as he led the children (and us!) through a thoughtful afternoon; first teaching us about the fly fishing kit, then how to assemble it correctly, and then helping us learn the proper techniques.
